The First World War is over and every day, the villages of Newfoundland are abandoned for a new life in the big city. Under the light of the moon, two former lovers meet to confront their past choices and contemplate a possible future. Salt-Water Moon is the story of a young man, Jacob Mercer, returning to Colley’s Point to win the heart of Mary Snow. Truly romantic, it is a glimpse of Eden caught in the moonlight over Newfoundland and Labrador. Salt-Water Moon is one of the Mercer Plays (along with Leaving Home, Of The Fields, Lately, 1949, and Soldier’s Heart) and is a Dora Mavor Moore Award winner. It is the gentlest play in the cycle, and answers many of the questions audiences for Leaving Home and Of the Fields, Lately may have had about the relationship of Mary and Jacob. It is considered by many to be the best of the Mercer Plays and, perhaps, of the entire David French canon. Direction by Carey Nicholson
